⌈ CHARACTER SECTION ⌉

Character: Emma
Age: 11
Canon: The Promised Neverland
Canon Point: Post Chpt 64

Background:

,     "The kind Mama we know...is the real Mama right?..."
"The kid in the trunk...That wasn't Connie right?.."

Emma grew up as a scruffy "orphan" knowing neither where she came from or who her parents were, not that it really mattered to her. Despite not having a traditional family, she had one in the form of her fellow orphans all of whom she lovingly referred to as her "siblings" despite obviously not being related, all raised by the caretaker of the orphanage; Izabella but more commonly known around the orphanage as Mama.

It was a decent life, they all had clothes, food, and ample amount of playtime, with only catch being once everyday they all would need to take extreme tests, the pen and pencil kind, which Mama explained away as something they would do instead of school, but none of the children ever really payed that any mind and simply go back to their lives once the testing was done. And after said testing would begin play time, which Emma fully embraced as both a participant and older sister teasing the way older siblings do, though was just often to be receiving guff from fellow orphans Norman and Ray, both roughly the same age.

She was the same age as both Norman and Ray and was closest to them, going on adventures and the like. With their biggest adventure then when they were only six was traveling towards the wall that was strictly forbidden to travel to for whatever reason, though none of them understood why.

Eventually all the children would need to leave the orphanage and once they hit the age of 12 it would be all but guaranteed. None of the children ever came back to the orphanage, or even wrote and none of the children ever truly understood why, justifying it as the world outside of the orphanage being "too much fun".

Eventually one night a child by the name of Connie would be adopted and be sent out, she said her goodbyes to Emma and the other, telling them about how she's going to miss them and how wanted to be a mother just like Mama when she grew up. But as fate would have it she would forgot her stuffed rabbit and Emma being the good sister wanted to return it to her before she left, and went with Norman.

They would travel once again to the wall and gates that surrounded the orphanage, only this time they would find the reason why they were never allowed to go there. Both of them traveled farther than they ever thought they would to return Connie's rabbit but soon found they wouldn't be returning it to her, the truth of it was, Connie and none of the other kids were "adopted" or "sent to another orphanage"; her fate and the others before them was she was dead...not just dead but packaged and jarred like she was a piece of meat. But made all the worse was who was doing it, monstrous creatures that eat human flesh but intelligent enough to talk, to build, to trap. The horrible truth was the safe orphanage was nothing of the sort, it was a farm with the children cattle, Mama was a traitor to humanity acting as a Shepard making none of the lambs left their pens before the butcher. Emma's life was shattered and she knew she had to escape, she knew she couldn't leave a single one of her siblings behind because that would mean she would leave them to their deaths.

Little would Emma know and come to realize far latter is that this extended further than she could've ever wanted to imagine. That long ago humanity divided the world into two pieces, one of demons and one of humans and that she and the other children where stuck on the demon side, with humanity being treated as livestock at best. She and the other children would need to escape more than one orphanage, they need to escape the entire world, to a find a place where humanity can exist and truly be free, a promised neverland.

Personality: If Emma can be summed up in one word it's empathetic. When she discovered that their lives were a lie, instead of fearing for her own life, she was terrified for her siblings. Each and every one of them is precious to her and she wants to protect them with all her might, no matter to cost to herself.

No matter what plan she thinks of, no matter what new revelation comes into her life, Emma is not going to forsake her siblings for the sake of an edge in her plan. Even when she was faced with the possibility of one of her own sibling being a spy and traitor to Mama she still would've wanted to save them and take them away with the others. With the revelation that they aren't even on Earth, Emma now wants to save humanity as a whole, because nobody deserves to live through this. She knows how naive and unrealistic that is, she knows she can't do it in one night or by herself, but the feelings are still there and will try to make good on them regardless, even if she gets hurt in the end. While her empathy is a great strength it can also be a great strain on her when it gets in the way of plans laid out by others and can come dangerously close to ruining them.

Emma is can be devilishly clever too, being one three of the smartest kids in the orphanage being tied close with friends Norman and Ray, all of whom got perfect test scores during their daily routine. Naturally, while not as good as Norman or Ray, Emma knows how to make a plan and execute it with the relatively little she has in her disposal, which has saved their lives more than once.

She's also a very quick learner and has a keen eye for details, which has proven to be invaluable in the forest covering her tacks from any who want to follow her or her siblings. She's also been known to use her environment to her benefit and look for openings whenever she can, a good example being while being held hostage at gunpoint when the opportunity rose she elbowed her would-be gunman in the crotch allowing just enough time to take away his gun and get away.

Naturally because of her position as "older sister", Emma doesn't show her emotions easily often hiding behind a mask of joy or bravery. She can't let her little siblings know how scared, angry, or sad she is on the inside because they can't be afraid either. Likewise emotion makes weakness known and gives her enemies a moment to strike, something she can't afford to happen to herself or her siblings. Perhaps now out of instinct she analyzes whoever new person she meets and wants to know what makes them tick, because that may be a literal matter of life and death.

When the tension has eased a bit however, Emma can be kinda awkward when talking to people she either isn't familiar with, or people she's very familiar with, with everything in-between being in a neutral space. Somewhat self conscious of how people view her maturity and often the subject of Ray's light teasing. Being in a constant fight for survival has left her a little unprepared for general normal interactions, but once she grows more comfortable around a person, they're as good as family to her.

Abilities: Emma's just a regular human girl and all the limitations that implies. That said she's in great shape, being able to move across the wilderness so naturally and efficiently.

She also knows how to use hunting weapons like bows and throwing axes, and is a pretty good marksman too.

Alignment: Elios

Emma's emotions stem from two places, the chief of which is love. Love for her family and the wanting to see them alive and safe. Literally every action she's taken since the discovery of Connie's death has been tied in some way to wanting to keep her family safe.

That said, when she comes across a demon very few emotions cross her outside of hatred and anger. And mama being one of the few humans she naturally actively hates for everything she's done.

Other: Nope

General Sample: Task board prompt: Beastmaster Hunting Guild

Emma's no stranger to hunting these days, for better or worse. Despite some...understandably weird looks from the guild-master she has no issues with the job. This place, it's as good as a home right now, and it's a home she wants to stay, at least for right now, at least until she can find a way to bring her family here too.

But as long as she's here it's probably best for her to earn her stay and show her worth to everyone around. If this to be a new home for her and her family it's probably best to make friends of the locals however way she can. And compared to what she's done in the past, this shouldn't be hard at all.

Though...being so ready to kill on a moments notice might put some people off....maybe she should this moment of the calm before the storm to break the ice. Sure most of them are adults and she's an 11 year old girl but that shouldn't mean they have nothing to talk about right? I mean they're all human deep down right?

"So...those...uh, things, look like spiders? Don once played a prank being bitten by one, Gilda really didn't find that very funny, she wouldn't talk to him for like a week after, I don't mind spiders though, I always thought they kinda cute.

What's you're opinion?"

Why are you walking away?"

....Well there's better luck next time?

SAMPLE 2
The streets seem awfully busy today for whatever reason, with shoppers barely paying any mind to each outside of their single minded tasks, 'what a day to be out doing chores' Eamma can't help but snark to herself with a bag full of food.
Quite frankly she couldn't wait to go back to her little makeshift homestead on this strange new world, but something catches her attention, a noise of...crying, a child crying.

Her big sister instincts aren't going to let that go no matter what, so placing her bags down near a fountain she looks for the source of the crying moving through waves and waves of people. It wasn't easy fight her way across the current of people but she finds the child, a little girl terrified and alone desperately grasping onto a stuffed lamb doll. Emma slowly and tenderly approaches her with a small smile her face so not to come off as scary to the little one.

"Hey there, are you lost?"

"M-my mama! I can't find her anywhere"

"It's okay, nothing's going to happen. I'll look for her too and if we can't find her in time...well, I'll keep you safe until we do okay?"

Fidgeting and sniffling like children do, she nods and takes Emma's hand while holding onto her toy with the other.

The rest of the day they were spent looking for the lost girl's mother while crying out her name, though to some there around the area...there was an odd sensation in the air or burning and cold, enough to make most others want to move away despite not knowing exactly why. It would seem hopeless until an hour's search and yelling would yield someone to call back and in an instant the second she came into view the child leaped from Emma and ran to her mother, both with tears in their eyes .

"Susie! Oh thank goodness you're alright! You there, you've been keeping my daughter safe in all this time? Thank you! You wonderful child, thank you"

"Y-yeah. It's alright ma'am, I know what it's like to take care of little kids, I'm a bit of a big sister myself"

"Bless you child, if there's anything I can do as thanks-"

"It's alright, just seeing her safe is more than enough reward for me"

With a warm smile, both mother and child leave as Emma waves goodbye and makes her way back to her bags which miraculously didn't get stolen, though a few food products went bad due to the heat.

Making her way back to her home, for lack of better word, Emma places her bags on the floor and moves towards the nearest corner of the room and sits...tucking her head below her arms.

She didn't want to do it in front of the little girl or her mother, but Emma felt the urge to burst into tears the second she saw that little girl...her face...her doll, her helplessness, it all reminded her of Connie and how she must've felt before her final moments, before their own mama...

With tears in her eyes, Emma's sadness now has a hint of rage and hope...

"This world...it can be our new home. I promise....I'll find a way to bring you all here....I promise...:"

Looking up from the cradle in her arms, Emma found that her room had what look to be scorch marks and ice crystals forming a perfect circle around her with orange ice crystals(?) practically touching her toes, funny thing is she didn't even notice until just now.
